Building Transatlantic Partnerships in Research, Innovation & Academic Exchange

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) invites senior representatives from universities, research institutions, funding agencies, and higher education policy in the United States and Canada to apply for the Germany Today” Information Tour 2026, taking place June 21–27, 2026 in Berlin, Leipzig, Jena, and Fulda.

About the Program

“Germany Today” offers a comprehensive overview of Germany’s higher education and research landscape. The 2026 program places special emphasis on innovation and knowledge transfer at German universities and research institutions.

Participants will gain:

  • An overview of Germany’s higher education and research systems

  • Updates on current developments, innovative projects, and structural reforms

  • Insights into Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD training models

  • Information on funding opportunities for academic exchange and institutional cooperation

The program includes visits to internationally oriented universities and non-university research organizations, as well as a networking event at the DAAD headquarters in Berlin designed to foster transatlantic collaboration.

A particular highlight is the introduction to Germany’s universities of applied sciences model, internationally recognized for its practice-oriented education, close collaboration with industry and start-ups, and its strong role in regional innovation and workforce development.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Hold U.S. or Canadian citizenship or permanent residency

  • Demonstrate a strong interest in Germany and transatlantic cooperation

  • Hold a relevant senior-level professional position (e.g., provost, dean, vice-president, head of international office, policymaker, or higher education expert)

  • Not have recently participated in another information trip to Germany

Special consideration will be given to institutions that have not yet participated in the “Germany Today” program or that have only limited existing cooperation with Germany.

Costs and Logistics

DAAD covers program-related costs in Germany, including accommodation, domestic travel, and most meals. Intercontinental travel expenses are the responsibility of participants.

The program begins in Berlin on Sunday afternoon, June 21, 2026, and concludes with a dinner in Fulda on Friday evening, June 26, 2026. Accommodation for the night of June 26–27 is also arranged and covered.

The program will be conducted in English.
