In Conversation with Gesche Würfel and Vanessa Agnew + Exhibition Walkthrough

January 07, 2025

New York, NY

On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM, an engaging discussion was held with Gesche Würfel and Vanessa Agnew during a walkthrough of Gesche Würfel’s exhibition, The Absence and Presence of the Berlin Wall. The session brought a diverse audience who explored the intersections of art, history, and memory. Gesche Würfel, a New York City-based visual artist and UA Ruhr alumna from TU Dortmund University, shared insights about her work, which has been showcased at renowned venues like Tate Modern and David Zwirner Gallery. Würfel's practice reflects her multidisciplinary background in Studio Art, Photography, Urban Cultures, and Spatial Planning. Joining her was Vanessa Agnew, a professor at TU Dortmund and Associate Director of Academy in Exile. Agnew’s thought-provoking contributions drew on her expertise in migration, climate issues, and reenactment studies, as well as her experience in co-curating exhibitions like Fixing What’s Brokenand What We Brought with Us. This discussion and exhibition walkthrough provided attendees with a deeper understanding of the lingering impacts of structure and space, making it a memorable event to kick off the new year.
