Experts Workshop

October 19-20, 2023

The FUTURE FORUM, hosted by the German Center for Research and Innovation (DWIH) New York, brings together German and American scientists, researchers, innovators, and entrepreneurs to tell their stories, exchange ideas, present innovations, and debate. Each year German and American thought leaders from academia, the public and private sectors convene to exchange perspectives, find collaborators and determine a collective path toward a progressive future. The German Center for Research and Innovation (DWIH) New York is the scientific bridge between the U.S. and Germany. The abbreviation "DWIH" stands for "Deutsches Wissenschafts- und Innovationshaus". Funded by the German Federal Foreign Office and administered by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the DWIH New York has been investigating how basic research and emerging technologies affect people and society since 2010. Through the events and communications, DWIH encourages transatlantic exchange and collaboration on topics related to the future like A.I., digital health, urbanization, and climate change. DWIH's network consists of 25 partners, including UA Ruhr and other German universities, government organizations and research institutions with or without a presence in the U.S. The DWIH network includes five other German Centers for Research and Innovation worldwide. University Alliance Ruhr together with the German Center for Research and Innovation is organizing an experts workshop during the FUTURE FORUM.

October 20, 2023: Navigating Displacement - Sharing Knowledge and Strategies for Fostering Resilience

An experts workshop to establish the Transatlantic Working Group for At-Risk Scholars offers a unique and conducive environment for open discussion and the development of concrete strategies. By highlighting attendance to invited stakeholders, such as experts, organizations, and institutions actively engaged in supporting scholars at risk, the workshop ensures a focused and safe space for honest exchange. The sensitive nature of academic freedom and the challenges faced by scholars at risk necessitate a thoughtful approach that fosters trust. Participants can freely share their experiences, insights, and concerns without fear of repercussions or external interference. This confidentiality allows for a deeper exploration of complex issues, enabling stakeholders to address the nuanced dynamics involved in supporting such activities.

If you are interested in participating, please contact UA Ruhr's Executive Director.
